Deepak Kumar- Ph.D. TA Journey

Hello Everyone,

I am Deepak Kumar, currently pursuing my Ph.D. in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at IIT Delhi as a Prime Minister’s Research Fellow. My research focuses on wire arc additive manufacturing of aluminum alloys, and I have been fortunate to contribute to top journals and international conferences in this exciting domain. Alongside research, I have always enjoyed engaging with students, guiding them, and learning from their fresh perspectives.

This semester, I will be serving as the Teaching Assistant (TA) for MEP 1001, a unique course designed especially for first-year B.Tech. students from all branches. What excites me the most about this course is its hands-on, project-driven approach—whether it’s developing projects such as IoT-based door locks, robotics applications, automated foosball setups, or smart chess boards etc. Through these projects, students not only explore their creativity but also gain exposure to the wide range of workshops and facilities at the Central Manufacturing Facility (CMF), IIT Delhi.

For me, being a TA here is more than just assisting in teaching—it is a game-changing opportunity. I believe it will help me:

  • Interact with students across diverse disciplines, exchanging ideas and perspectives.
  • Guide and mentor project teams, while also learning from their innovative approaches.
  • Expand my own horizons by exploring new dimensions of manufacturing and product innovation beyond my core research.

What makes this journey truly special is the chance to witness young minds transforming ideas into real, tangible products. As much as I will support students in their learning, I am equally looking forward to learning from them—their energy, creativity, and problem-solving spirit.

I am confident that MEP 1001 will not only help students discover the immense possibilities in manufacturing and product innovation but will also shape me into a better mentor, researcher, and collaborator.
