CMF Safety Rules

Safety Rules for Working in Central Manufacturing Facility

Before one uses tools, equipment and machines in central workshop one must understand and follow safety guidelines. Following these guidelines not only will help keep you and others safe in the workshop, but violation of the same may attract penalty

  1. Wear good strong shoes. You are not allowed to attend practical classes if you come without shoes.
  2. Eye protection shall be mandatory for all workshop occupants whenever any operations likely to involve the release of dust or projectiles is being conducted.
  3. UV eye protection shall be worn during welding operations.
  4. A workshop coat or apron should be worn whenever one is working in the workshop. Wear full clothes before coming to the workshop. Shorts, half pants, skirts not allowed.
  5. Do not use Mobile Phones while working in the Workshop.
  6. Long hair must be tied back or otherwise restrained whenever in the workshop. The same applies to ties, scarves or other loose items of clothing.
  7. Rings, bracelets (including watches), or other loose jewelry shall not be worn in the workshop if it interferes with working.
  8. Bags should not be brought into a working area. Keep them in Bag rack.
  9. Never clean a machine or adjust the setup while it is running. Shut off the power and wait until all moving parts have stopped. Do not use hands or body as a brake to stop machinery.
  10. When an unguarded cutter is in motion, the hands and fingers must be kept well away from the cutters.
  11. Waste scrap metal provides a hazard for the hands so protective gloves should be worn when the metal is handled or disposed.
  12. Report all hazards and unsafe conditions and work practices to instructor.
  13. Only one person should be allowed to operate the machine at one time.
  14. Report every injury immediately, however slight, to the shop instructor.
  15. Never distract the attention of another student or staff member when that person is operating equipment and never indulge in horseplay.
  16. Do not run in the workshop, you could ‘bump’ into another student or machine and cause an accident.
  17. Always Listen carefully to the teacher/Instructor and follow instructions. Ask questions, especially if you do not fully understand.
  18. Always seek instruction before using an unfamiliar piece of equipment.

CMF SAFETY AGREEMENT

I have read the Safety Guidelines, and understand its contents. I agree to abide by all of its rules at all times in the CMF Labs. I understand that violation of safety regulations may result in my expulsion from the CMF and that continued infractions may result in my being withdrawn from the course.
