A Solar Seed Dryer is an eco-friendly, non-electric drying system used to remove moisture from agricultural seeds using solar energy. It ensures proper seed preservation, increases shelf life, and prevents fungal growth—especially in rural farming, seed banks, and post-harvest processing.

How it works:

The system works by converting solar energy into thermal energy, which is used to dry seeds:

  1. Transparent cover (glass or polycarbonate) traps solar heat inside
  2. Black absorber surface converts sunlight into heat
  3. Heated air rises inside the drying chamber, carrying moisture away
  4. Vents or fans allow hot humid air to exit and fresh air to enter
  5. Seeds placed on perforated trays dry uniformly under controlled airflow
